If you want to become a member or a supporting member of the Austrian
Architectural Society (OeGFA), please send an E-Mail to office@oegfa.at.
This society, founded in 1965, was for two decades the only independent,
critical and internationally oriented lecture and discussion forum
in Vienna. In the '90s the cross specialist discourse became the
central issue on a theoretical level. In this respect the OeGFA
demonstrates the vital links to the sciences, arts, the economy
and politics and acts as a catalyst for inter-disciplinary debate
about architecture. The structure of the institution is supported
by the executive committee and more than 300 association members,
and financially by public bodies, private sponsors and membership
fees. Lectures and discussions about architecture (once in a fortnight)
introduce both the work of rising architects and other little known
works by experienced planners. Exhibitions present work and items
from ambitious architects, constructional engineers, photographers
and landscape architects. »UmSicht«, a series of monographs,
documents the exhibitions. Long-term developments are reflected
in the magazine »UmBau«. Conferences are used to express
current problems in architecture, urban planning, civil engineering
and landscape design. Architectural visits with architects, designers
and clients introduce to otherwise not accessible objects and allow
for very concrete questioning of the building process.
